Resin
The idea for resin based pieces sparked from blending the uniqueness of wood grain with the complex marbeling patterns created deep within the resin during the casting process.
It’s always a surprise to uncover the swirling patterns in the resin when subsequently turning the blank on the lathe.
Several trial and error experiments were required to ensure the proportions were balanced between the wood and resin components. The success of each piece is therefore determined by the shape of the wood placed in the mold prior to casting. In the case of burls, the careful selection of sapwood and heartwood results in an additional contrast between the resin and the two tones in the burl.
